This is my current CB and it’s excellent, don’t need to be fancy like this, a Cobra 29 will do the job. This is the only device that gives real time info on things happening on the road ahead of you, around next curve, over next hill, or 100 miles up the road. It has saved my life and I am sure it saved others. Not having one in your semi truck is lacking safety equipment you should have. Ignore anyone who has only negative comments about a communication device meant to help you, plus it can be a great source of information on long drives.
I am a fan of sideband and listen to it half the time, it’s a mode turning normal AM 11 meter citizens band radio into a more long range communication device often 3-4x the range. For best results a proper antenna system, coax, and mounting must be done to achieve a good SWR. A good quality noise canceling microphone is essential due to all the noise in semi trucks, wind, engine, and Jake brakes. I have an even fancier version of this CB a President Washington, but prefer the President George FCC in winter for the weather station built in. This picks up the weather stations much better than the trucks built in am/fm radio.
You can hear all over the USA with one of these, even DX aka communications from other counties especially on sideband. Common channels to use are channel 19 for normal AM, it’s still used but not as much by truckers since many do not run CB”s or even know about the importance of one. If you have sideband on your radio then go to lower sideband channels 36-38 which are very active on AM with mostly radio operator hobbyists. Other channels are used too.
