Don’t do it, no emergency reflective triangles indicates this to me. You are endangering every vehicle passing you by and will be held responsible most likely if something happens. Most of the time it’s the same scenario, semi truck parked on shoulder with right door open or driver behind catwalk with his tiny pecker out taking a piss or dumping his trash out on shoulder. Not only that but they just passed a rest area or travel center very recently. If you can’t make it to a safe place to do your non emergency business you shouldn’t be driving a semi truck!
Observation what if you do see emergency triangles? Keep track of how many times you see them placed in the proper position, my observation is 99% of truck drivers do not know how to place 3 reflective triangles behind their truck on a divided highway. I will help you with a simple example of a truck and trailer parked on the right shoulder of interstate 40 a divided highway. 10 feet behind left edge, 100 feet behind middle, and 200 feet behind right edge. This pattern should appear to create a lane ending line if you were coming up directly behind this broken down vehicle pushing you to the left away from the disabled vehicle. You should have these triangles placed out within 10 minutes.
The base of the reflective triangle is weighted with sand or dirt and will stay upright if properly locked into position. Often times I see them laying on their side because the truck driver was too lazy to fold them out and lock properly, the triangles act as a tripod of sorts when done correctly.
