Something over the past few years is happening on highways, new rumble strips on both sides of road. The issue is to get this space they have removed space from the current lane width. This has created tighter lanes and it surely isn’t helping. These appear to be about a foot in width so basically it appears we have lost a couple feet of width on our highways. Not only this but many times the rumble strips are placed right in the painted lines (edge lines) even into the lane a bit. More space is safer but our roads are being downsized.
Another opinion on lane width, the right lane should always be wider than the left since it is the travel lane. Many times I notice the left passing lane is wider, people tend to prefer the wider lane and camp out there. This is wrong.
